Beef Quality Assurance Program
Creig C. Kimbro, UT Extension Agent
UT/TSU Extension in Grundy County will offer a Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification/re-certification program at the UT/TSU Extension Office in Coalmont on Monday evening, September 19, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The BQA certification is $20 for TCA members and $40 for non-members. Many cattle producers may have heard about or participated in the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program (TAEP) offered to Tennessee cattle producers and administered by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) in the past couple of years. The program consists of several components including: a cattle genetic improvement program, cattle handling facilities program, hay storage, and grain storage. These programs utilize cost share incentives to encourage producers to improve herds and facilities. Many farmers may be looking to expand or improve their current handling facilities, buy or lease a bull, or add a hay storage facility in 2016. In order to be eligible for the cost share funds in 2016, producers must have completed two things:
1) Beef producers must be certified through Tennessee Cattleman’s Beef Quality Assurance Program.
2) All producers complete the application for the Cost Share Assistance through the TDA Cattle Improvement Initiative.
