Gayle VanHooser Named 2017 Tennessee’s Outstanding Register of the Year

Grundy County, Tenn. — Gayle VanHooser, Grundy County Register of Deeds, was recently awarded Tennessee’s Outstanding Register of the Year.

Annually, the County Officials Association of Tennessee (COAT) hosts an Awards Banquet to recognize outstanding leadership from across the State of Tennessee.
VanHooser was selected by the Tennessee Register’s Association during the annual conference of the County Officials Association of Tennessee conference. The organization, known as COAT, has over 500 members made up of Register of Deeds, County Clerks, County Court Clerks, Clerk and Masters, and County Trustees throughout the 95 counties of Tennessee. COAT Executive Director Rodney Archer had this to say about the honoree. “Gayle VanHooser has demonstrated extraordinary leadership as the Register of Deeds in Grundy County and has earned this well-deserved distinction as the Outstanding Register of the Year. I am proud to work with professionals like Gayle who care deeply about their constituents and carry themselves with the highest degree of character.”

VanHooser stated, “I give God the glory! Anything praiseworthy in me, is Him! I feel extremely blessed and humbled to receive this honor on behalf of the people of Grundy County, however, I feel that this award is an achievement earned by the teamwork and dedication of my chief deputy, Connie Gallagher and myself. We have all heard the statement “There is no “I” in TEAM”. We are thankful to have gained the confidence of the citizens of Grundy County and we never take that for granted as we strive daily to give our citizens the highest quality of service.”

VanHooser has received many awards since being elected Register of Deeds in 1994. Gayle is the first Register in the State to receive this award three times. She was named Tennessee’s Outstanding Register of the Year in 1998, 1999 and 2017. Gayle was also honored with the highest award given to a county official by COAT in 2007 when she was named Tennessee’s Outstanding County Official of the Year.

The 2017 Tennessee Register’s Association President, Ms. Phyllis Crisp from Blount County stated, “Gayle has a compassionate heart for her service to the People of Grundy County and her Family. She does a wonderful job representing Grundy County and our association. She is clearly an outstanding professional, mentor and teacher. Her outstanding leadership has molded many of our new members in the Register’s association. Gayle is among the most visible advocates of any new laws or changes concerning the duties and responsibilities of Register of Deeds offices across the state. She has gone out of her way to encourage me to grow and become a leader in our wonderful association. If you want a job done, Gayle is the one to call!”

VanHooser said in closing, “I am so thankful for this positive, good news story for Grundy County! I love this county and the people I serve! I am thankful for the citizens giving me this opportunity, I will always strive to make the best, better!”
